The Counter Revolutionary Magazine Design

Research Sketchbook

Ideas and Development Sketchbook

For this Brief I was asked to design a contemporary arts magazine. I think the front cover should be striking, which I feel I have achieved.  After much research  I went with an underwater theme as its quite different yet its interesting and intriguing, My main colour used is red as I found it was a popular choice for magazines.

Liverpool Biennial Poster

Liverpool Sketchbook

This brief was to create a poster for Liverpool Biennial, International Festival Of Contemporary Arts. I experimented with photo copying a map of liverpool with tracing paper over the top. I chose red as its a contrasting colour. I was also inspired by the typographer Barbara Kruger.

Circus Book Cover

For this project, we were asked to create a book titled ‘Nights At The Circus’ I chose to go with a traditional theme of the red curtains and almost a puppet like model. I think the typeface I chose stuck with that theme. I like the photography worked used.

Stamps

For this brief I created a set of stamps, I started by creating separate collages for each, preferably very vivid. I then overlaid some of my life drawing sketches over the top, contrasting the colour by turning them white. I think this effect worked well.

DVD Cover

I was asked to create a DVD cover and disk by a Jazz/Classical artist. After looking into different photography I was inspired by David Hockney's photo montages, producing my own of a saxophone, I chose a clean and legible typeface that fitted well, with a matching colour scheme. The choice of typography and imagery fitted the genre of music.

Corporate Identity for Ikon Gallery

For this brief we were given a guest artist to research and create stationary in their style. I was given the arist Andy Goldsworthy. After initially researching this work, I was inspired by the use of the enviroment, mainly twigs and rocks. I wanted my final outcome to look clean and professional but still with a hint of his style.

Sample of Life drawing work, sketch shows 3 different angles used.

Photography Photograms/Pinhole

After choosing various and interesting shapes and buildings and exposed them to light onto photographic paper. The results show a good tonal contrast of dark and light resulting in interesting compositions.
